The Game We’ve All Been Waiting For: GTA 6
Grand Theft Auto 6 is hands down one of the most eagerly awaited games for the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, and that’s saying something. Ever since Rockstar Games dropped the trailer for the new open-world sequel last December, the anticipation has only been growing. As someone who counts its predecessor among my all-time favorite games, I’m completely caught up in the excitement and the hype. we all have been waiting for GTA 6 for more than 10 years now.
With all the buzz about Sony possibly planning to launch GTA 6 on the PS5 Pro, especially with PS5 hardware sales on the decline , I’ve been thinking about just how many times I’ve revisited the previous game. And let me tell you, it’s more times than I’d like to admit. I’ve played through Franklin, Michael, and Trevor’s wild adventures in Los Santos on almost every platform—PS3, PS4, PC, and now PS5—completing the game 100% at least six freaking times !. It’s safe to say I’m hooked.
The PS5 Pro Could Be the Next Big Thing—Here’s Why
But this drop in PS5 sales is definitely something to think about. We’re at a point in the console’s life cycle where the initial excitement has waned. The early adopters have all picked up their consoles, and those on the fence are either waiting for a price drop or more exclusive games to justify the purchase. Plus, the economic landscape has shifted since the PS5 launched; with inflation and other financial pressures, not everyone is eager to drop cash on a new console right now.
This decline might be part of what’s driving Sony to consider a PS5 Pro. If they can offer a more powerful console, especially with a game like GTA 6 as a potential launch title, it could reignite interest and boost sales. After all, who wouldn’t want to experience one of the most anticipated games in its best possible form?
With GTA 6 expected to drop in fall 2025, the importance of smooth gameplay becomes even more critical. We’ve all been waiting for this game for what feels like forever, and when it finally arrives, you can bet fans will want the most immersive experience possible. That’s why the PS5 Pro, with its potential to consistently deliver 60 fps, could be a game-changer for dedicated players. This feature isn’t just a nice-to-have; it’s a must for those of us who crave that seamless, responsive feel in our games.
The Most Hyped Game in History Deserves a Next-Level Port on Sony’s Upcoming Console
For me, having a 60 fps mode when GTA 6 launches is crucial. While third-person sandbox games might not always need 60 fps, it makes a huge difference when it’s done right. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on PS5 is a prime example of how fantastic 60 fps gameplay can be without sacrificing too much in terms of image quality. If GTA 6 can deliver a similar smoothness, I’ll be thrilled.
However, I’m concerned that achieving 60 fps might be challenging for the PS5 and Xbox Series X. The GTA 6 trailer shows some of the most detailed character models and environments Rockstar has ever created, and current games are already pushing hardware to its limits. Many titles in 2024 are using VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) to handle frame rate drops, so maintaining 60 fps might be a stretch.
Why the PS5 Will Become a Must-Have
Consider a game like Cyberpunk 2077. When it first launched, the performance on current-gen consoles was underwhelming, often suffering from frame rate issues and stuttering. However, the game’s more recent updates and patches have significantly improved its smoothness, particularly on high-end hardware like the PS5. Despite its rocky start, Cyberpunk 2077 has become a major hit, with its expansive open world and deep narrative drawing in countless players. The upcoming expansions are also highly anticipated, reflecting the game’s enduring popularity.
This situation underscores the importance of a strong selling point for the PS5 Pro. With the Xbox Series S continuing to outsell the Xbox Series X, Microsoft is focusing on delivering a substantial boost in performance with their next console. The PS5 Pro will need to offer a compelling reason for gamers to upgrade, especially as the PS5 enters the latter stages of its life cycle.
For the PS5 Pro to stand out, especially when it comes to games like GTA 6, it should prioritize a 60 fps performance mode. While there’s been speculation about 8K resolution, the market for such high-end TVs is still relatively small. Instead, ensuring that the PS5 Pro delivers a consistently smooth 60 fps experience would provide a tangible upgrade over the standard PS5. Regardless of the console’s raw power or technical specifications, focusing on frame rate and overall performance should be the primary goal, and GTA 6 should be a showcase for this commitment.
I think hitting 60 fps with GTA 6 on the PS5 might be a stretch, but who knows—we might just be pleasantly surprised!
